Phyllis Haduch Obituary

Phyllis (Rizzo) Haduch

Phyllis (Rizzo) Haduch passed away peacefully at her apartment in the SHHS Senior Residence on January 21, 2024, at the age of 96.  Phyllis was born on Mt. Washington where she attended St. Mary of the Mount Elementary, Prospect Junior High School and graduated from South Hills High School Class of 1946. She belonged to St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Stanley A. Haduch and her son Stanley P. Haduch, sisters Josephine Rizzo Marmo and Patricia Rizzo Banaszak and brother Louis Rizzo.  She is survived by her loving daughter Phyllisjo (PJ) Dempsey and son Thomas Haduch (wife, Deborah). She was also cherished by her grandsons Stanley E. (wife, Jennifer) Haduch, Kenneth Haduch, Brett Haduch, and Alex Haduch, great-grandchildren Holly and Max, nephew The Hon. Michael F. Marmo (wife, Kathy), and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Although she never had an official career, Phyllis lived life to the fullest in various roles: As a proud member of the Tri-Rivers Clown Troupe she brought smiles and laughter to children. As a participant in the City of Pittsburgh Senior Games she consistently won medals, often placing first in her age group well into her 90s at the local, state, and national levels. Phyllis was also active in local politics and served as a greeter for voters at the polls on election days.  Most recently she was proud to be profiled in the book HIDDEN HEROES OF SOUTH HILLS HIGH SCHOOL by Janice Parker “as a person who fulfilled their purpose.”

Phyllis lived a full, active, and memorable life and her passing will leave a hole in the lives of many who had the privilege of knowing her.  Her legacy of love and dedication to family, friends, and community as well as her feisty spirit, will live on.
