Norma Marfisi Obituary

Norma DiPerna Marfisi

Age 89, of Mt. Washington, on Monday, September 2, 2024. Norma DiPerna Marfisi, beloved daughter of Michael J. and Angelina Mastandrea DiPerna, cherished wife of the late Frank Marfisi, dear mother of Rosanne Flickinger (Don), Janet Devinney, and Frank Marfisi II (Connie), devoted grandmother of Dana, Bryan, Kirby, Kaci, Frank III, Samantha and Stephanie. Proud great grandmother of Blayne, Brantley, Atlas, and William (also family members Reno, Rob, Brandon, Sarah and Matt), doting godmother of Katie, loving sister of the late Mike, true friend of sister-in-law Sheila.

Norma was a child of Mt. Washington, having lived there her entire life. She was a part of the fabric of many Italian and Mt. Washington community traditions, including the Italian Festival Parades (always the queen), a busy volunteer at St. Mary of the Mount School and Church, past president of the SMMS alumni, organizer of the 100th anniversary party for SMMS, planner of many Ladies Guild projects.

Her family will remember the many holiday dinners of homemade Italian food, especially the ravioli. And who can forget the delicious desserts made with love for her family. Her recipes will live on through her daughters, granddaughters and nieces. Christmas celebrations were her specialty. Bags and bags of gifts! Her home was always wildly decorated for every event, including dancing geraniums and singing Santas. She created fabulous memories for her family. No one will ever take her place.

Norma was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan following the Pirates, the Penguins, and of course the Steelers. Tailgates were a family legend! Many who visited Meridan St. were welcomed into the Marfisi sports memorabilia room.

Norma worked for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, first as a volunteer, then as an advocate for donations. She also was an event planner for Duquesne University, where she arranged outstanding parties and met many Pittsburgh clergy and Pittsburgh celebrities.
