“Katie”
Age 72, formerly of Mt. Washington, passed peacefully from this world on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Katie is the loving daughter of the late Leo and Margaret O’Neill, as well as the cherished sister of: Maureen Kitner (Bill, deceased), Leo (Peggy), Mary Ann Fischer (Mike), Jim (Nancy), and Margie McClure (Jim). Katie is the devoted aunt of 13 nieces and nephews and 21 great nieces and nephews. In addition, Katie leaves many loving cousins and friends. Katie retired recently from 43 years of dedicated service as a nurse. Her career included working at Mercy and Children’s Hospitals, private duty, and Hospice care. Katie received a degree in Special Education from Marywood University, an R.N. from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, a B.S.N. from Duquesne University, and Certifications in Early Childhood Development. Katie was dedicated to working with, caring for, and educating children and families in her role as Family/Child Advocate at Shady Lane School. Also, through workshops and conferences, she shared her insights into Early Childhood Development with many educators throughout the state. Most recently, she offered grief support to groups through her volunteer work with Family Hospice and also supported individual families.Katie will be deeply missed by her family and the many devoted cousins and friends who have untiringly provided their love and support, enriching not only her life, but the lives of her family. Katie will be remembered for her love of children, her kind and generous heart, her quick wit, her story telling, and fun-loving spirit. Katie’s love of life, family, friends and especially children will never be forgotten! Katie celebrated her faith in several parishes over the years including St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, September 23rd.
