Karen Theresa (Marshall) Hunt, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Karen was born the last of eight children at home on Merrimac Street and graduated from St. Mary of the Mount High School, and was a lifelong resident of Mount Washington. Karen was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Mary’s after meeting her devoted and loving husband Larry at a nearby bus stop. After raising her two children, Karen returned to work and had a long career with the U.S. Postal Service, from which she retired. Karen enjoyed Pittsburgh sports, and it wouldn’t be unusual for her to be cheering on the Steelers during football season with libations.
Karen was a long-time active member of the Pittsburgh Aerie 76 Auxiliary on Boggs Avenue in Mount Washington where she served as the Ladies Auxiliary Secretary. Karen was incredibly crafty, creating cherished blankets and doilies through crocheting, and was a lover of mystery and suspense novels. Most of all, Karen loved being with her husband, family and having fun with friends at the Eagles club.
Karen is survived by her beloved husband of over 55 years, Larry T. Hunt; her daughter Heather Hunt (partner Steven Pierce); her son Carl Hunt (partner Jennifer Lundy); her 6 grandchildren including Arabella Hunt (fiancée Kevin Roque) and Jonah Hunt (wife Anna Hunt); her brother Ronald Smith; her sister Patricia Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews who cherish great memories of their fun “Aunt Karen.” She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Marie (Edward) Smith, and Cheryl (James) Pennetti Smith.
She was preceded in death by her mother Hope Kelly Marshall; her brothers Edward Smith; Jerry Smith; David Smith (wife Phyllis Smith), James Smith; sister Peggy Smith Lazor (husband John Lazor), and sister-in-law Arlene (Ronald) Smith.
